James King Managing Director

James has more than 10 years’ experience in fundraising, business strategy consultation and management of early-stage companies. He has founded multiple businesses, including Fig, which he created to provide a pragmatic new approach to supporting and investing in high-growth, early-stage companies with the support of angel investors, who wanted to see a more consistent and practical approach to sourcing deal flow.

In the past five years, James has successfully identified high-growth investment opportunities for investors and raised more than £36m in early-stage equity finance for those ventures.

James founded New Model with the aim of delivering fast intelligent capital to high-growth companies and launched the Evergreen Discretionary Asset Management Scheme in 2014. As well as equity investment, raising debt, restructuring complex international corporate structures, purchasing secondary shares of listed companies and acquiring IP rights, since founding New Model, he has also managed investments in alternative asset classes including the refinancing of a property loan book and the sale of corporate bonds.


David Marshall Chairman

David has specialised in all aspects of private equity for more than 30 years, having led his first cross-border, leveraged management buyout in 1983. He has since completed more than 100 transactions in the UK, Europe and the USA as a principal investor, equity partner, corporate finance adviser or lender (mezzanine and senior debt), ranging from £100,000 to more than £1bn.

After spending three years in a senior position in a merchant banking operation for a European bank in New York, David spent eight years at a European investment bank as head of European Structured Finance. He was responsible for all European acquisition finance with teams in Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Lisbon, Helsinki and Stockholm as well as private equity investing in the UK. David was also responsible for European securitisation activities.

In the past eight years David has been a senior partner in a corporate finance boutique, responsible for all financial sponsor transactions and principal investment opportunities, as well as advising and investing for his own account.


Robin McIlvenny Director

Robin has more than 30 years’ experience in commercial and investment banking, having worked in senior positions with Deutsche Bank, Security Pacific National Bank, Creditanstalt and JP Morgan Group. From 1991 to 2003, Robin was CEO of Gulf-based investment bank Bahrain International Bank and Chairman of leading UK property developer Crown Dilmun Holdings. He has a wealth of expertise at investment committee level and exit strategy execution gained in the US, European and Far-East private equity markets.

Alongside his 20 years of private equity and venture capital investment experience, Robin is an active and highly successful angel investor, having made a total of 29 early-stage investments over the past 18 years. To date, 15 of these investments have been exited. Robin is also an adviser to the UK Government’s newly-formed Department of International Trade, overseeing high-value inward investment projects for innovation and venture capital.


Nick Massey Director

Nick’s early career began with the General Electric Company, holding roles in operations, commercial and strategy. He then joined the strategy practice at PA Consulting Group, working with blue chip clients throughout Europe.

Nick moved to Coca-Cola in London, taking on strategy, business transformation and sales roles. He later transferred to Boston, US, to lead sales and marketing activities in the New England region. He then became global leader of strategy, in the Atlanta HQ, becoming a Top 20 executive and reporting to the CEO and Chairman.

As CEO, Nick led the turnaround of Octagon in the sports, music and entertainment sector. Goldman Sachs the hired Nick as CEO of Boxclever, following its private equity deal with Fortress and Cerberus. Nick was hired as CEO to replace a founder and launch, an early-stage digital streaming music service in 33 countries. Most recently, Nick has driven the commercial and digital transformation across global operations for Fletcher Building as Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer.

Nick completed the Young President’s programme at Harvard Business School, holds an MBA from Aston University Business School and a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Southampton.

Mark Hanington Director

Mark read Philosophy at the University of Leeds before beginning his career at Henderson Global Investors. He passed IMC and IAQ regulatory examinations while working as a back and middle-office operations analyst. While at Henderson, Mark was instrumental in implementing a concept he developed for an improved securities lending programme. Mark joined Fig, where he is Managing Director, in May 2010. He has had compliance and operational oversight of NMVC and has raised investment for Fig and Fig portfolio companies.



Ron Zeghibe

Ron has 25 years experience in leading management buyouts, start-ups and corporate turn-around situations. Since 2010, he has been a Founder and Chairman of Hailo Network Holdings Ltd. which is transforming the iconic London licensed taxi market as well as expanding into major markets outside the UK. He was also Chairman of the successful UK based start-up,, from 2012 until its sale in July 2015 to the Rocket Ventures backed German company Helpling. From 2006 until 2010, he was the CEO of Evanesco Ltd., an advisor to TPG Capital L.L.C., a partner of BBZC Capital Marketing, as well as a non-executive director and advisor to a number of young European technology companies.

From 1993 to 2006, he was the CEO of the Maiden Group plc, which he led through two stages of private equity funding before its floatation in 1996 and subsequent sale in 2006. Maiden was the largest independent outdoor media company in the UK. Prior to Maiden, from 1990 to 1992, Ron was responsible, as Managing Director, for the turnaround of Mediamax Group B.V. Mediamax was one of the three major outdoor media companies in the Netherlands. It was subsequently sold to Viacom. Between 1980 and 1990, Ron worked as an international investment banker based in London. He was an executive director of the Saudi International Bank, a consortium bank primarily owned by SAMA and JP Morgan before spending three years at Salomon Brothers International.



Adam Stankiewicz Investment Director

Adam joined New Model in 2012 as an Associate, and is currently an Investment Director. He is responsible for deal origination and evaluation of investment opportunities. He also supports New Model in their corporate finance work, where he has structured financial products and advised on M&A transactions for public companies.

Adam began his career as an engineer at PACCAR and graduated from UCL with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering. He serves on the board of portfolio company, Eulysis, and led New Model’s investment into Live Better With.


Marco Geninazza Director of Fig Operations

Marco spent 11 years in Marketing, PR and Event Management. It was during this time that he helped to launch Fig with James King as well as start his own events company, which he subsequently sold. Marco is Operations Director at Fig.

Marco provides operation support to Fig, the Fig and New Model Portfolio as well as providing portfolio management services for Scratch Meals and Innoture.
